Mountain biking

Although motorized vehicles and mountain bikes are not allowed in designated Wilderness Areas, the Columbia Highlands feature miles of mountain bike trails outside of proposed wilderness, including the Swan Lake trail system, Gillette Ridge, Bead Lake Loop, the Batey Bould mixed-use singletrack system, and the Taylor Ridge Trail. These trails offer challenging terrain, beautiful scenery and no crowds.

The soon-to-be-completed Gibraltar trail will provide almost twenty miles of shoulder-season heaven right out of Republic. It will be singletrack built with mountain bikers in mind, with incredible views of the Kettle Crest, lower elevation terrain that will be snow-free most of the year, and easy access. Proposals in the works from local riders would create even more miles of new mountain-biker-friendly trails.
